Ó Bhéal

On November 11th, Ó Bhéal presents a hybrid poetry session featuring Tom Hirons (via Zoom) and Jeff Cottrill (in person).

Tom Hirons, a writer and storyteller based on the edge of Dartmoor, England, is the founder of Clarion and Feral Angels Press and co-founder of the Hedgespoken travelling storytelling theatre. His notable works include Sometimes a Wild God and The Queen of Heaven (2024), among others. Despite never having won a poetry prize, he makes his living through writing, publishing, and teaching poetry as a form of folk medicine.

Jeff Cottrill, a fiction writer, poet, and spoken-word artist from Toronto, Canada, is known for his witty and satirical performance style and has headlined in literary series worldwide. The event will take place at the Hayloft bar, Long Valley, Cork, and be available on Zoom, with participation in the open-mic session and Five Word Challenge open to both in-person and virtual attendees. The session will be live-streamed on obheal.ie/live and Ó Bhéal’s Vimeo, Facebook, and YouTube channels, with the hybrid event recorded for future viewing.

The evening, running for 2-3 hours, will feature four parts: Poetry Films (7-7:45pm, not streamed), the Five Word Challenge (8:30pm), Featured Guest Poets (9:30pm), and an Open-Mic Session (10:20pm).
